Why we drafted it
Every serious profession is bound by an oath.
Physicians take the Hippocratic oath. Lawyers are sworn to the bar. Engineers pledge to the public good. The Muslim in business, whose work touches livelihoods and whole communities, has too often had nothing on the wall.
CIEA drafted the Oath as a plain, contemporary statement of what the tradition has always asked: honest dealings, freedom from riba, care for employees and suppliers, the correct discharge of zakah, and the constant reminder that all wealth belongs to Allah.
It is not new law. It is the old covenant, set down in eight clauses and language a boardroom, a family shop or a new founder can read once and mean.
The Oath is free under the Standard, for any Muslim business in Australia or anywhere. Print it, frame it, and place it where staff, customers and suppliers will see it.
Not as decoration. As declaration.
The Oath

I render this oath in the name of Allah, Most Merciful, as I undertake and understand:

That true wealth and property belongs to Allah alone and is entrusted to me by Allah; thus I will ensure my career choice, business methods and income are all consistent with the laws and teachings of Islam as guided by the scholars.

That I will actively abstain from riba and usury in all forms.

That as a vicegerent of Allah on this earth, I will actively produce and selectively and conservatively consume, so as to achieve real progress and development whilst keeping the welfare of mankind and future generations at heart; and that I will not be driven by self-enrichment.

That I will provide the goods and services for which I am receiving a consideration in an ethical and trustworthy way, to the best of my ability, and fulfil all contractual obligations as agreed.

That I will safeguard the dignity of, and respect the true value of, my employees, customers and suppliers, and adequately and timeously discharge all due obligations.

That I will not cheat, deceive, commit theft, withhold goods or services, hoard, or engage in any manipulative or monopolistic practices in any capacity.

That I will accurately determine annually the due obligatory zakah on my business and income, and distribute it in accordance with the tenets of the Qur'an and Prophetic guidance.

That ultimately all success or failure of all earthly endeavours are determined by Allah Almighty alone, for wealth and property are His alone to give and to take.
O Allah! Grant me the strength, patience, dedication and perseverance to adhere to this undertaking at all times. Amin.

The client at your counter, the employee at your bench and the supplier at your door all deserve to know the terms you trade on.

The eight clauses come from Qur'anic principle and Prophetic guidance. Each one addresses a real, common failure in commerce. This is not marketing copy dressed up as ethics.
